Yves Mathieu East has recently been announced as a guest star in the upcoming second season of the popular scripted comedy series, Survival of the Thickest. The multi-talented artist is making his foray into television with this exciting new role, joining a stellar lineup of guest stars including Anderson .Paak and Tika Sumpter.
East's impressive career spans various fields, from modeling for renowned brands like Burberry, GQ, Kenneth Cole, and Puma to being handpicked by Beyoncé for the Drip 2 Ivy Park campaign. Beyond his work in the entertainment industry, East is also known for his activism, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, black queer liberation, and mental health awareness through organizations like the Jed Foundation.
Production for the second season of Survival of the Thickest is already underway, with a star-studded cast that includes Jonathan Chad Higginbotham, Deon Cole, Alecsys Proctor-Turner, Jerrie Johnson, Celisse, Rolonda Watts, Michael Rishawn, Monét X Change, and RonReaco Lee. They will be joining the returning ensemble cast led by Michelle Buteau, Tasha Smith, Tone Bell, Liza Treyge, Peppermint, and Marouane Zotti.
The comedy series, co-created and co-executive produced by Danielle Sanchez-Witzel and Michelle Buteau, revolves around the character of Mavis Beaumont, played by Buteau. Mavis, a black, plus-size stylist on a quest for love, navigates the challenges of growing her brand and establishing herself in the industry. With a body-positive attitude and unwavering determination, Mavis is set on not just surviving but thriving with the support of her chosen family.
Aside from his role in Survival of the Thickest, East is also gearing up to star in an upcoming gothic romance indie film currently in development. Grace Edwards serves as the executive producer of the Netflix series, with Amy Aniobi taking on the role of showrunner and executive producer for the second season. A24 and Anne Hong from Mosaic are also on board as executive producers for the show.
