YouTuber Markiplier has finally shared when fans will be able to watch his horror movie Iron Lung at home after its successful run in theaters. Speaking during a Cannes panel hosted by Deadline, the creator revealed that the movie will release exclusively on YouTube on May 31. Fans will be able to buy and watch the film directly on the platform. Markiplier explained that YouTube felt like the perfect place for the release because it has been his home for many years.
The movie first arrived in theaters on January 30 and quickly became a surprise hit. Despite having a reported budget of only $4 million, Iron Lung earned more than $50 million worldwide. Much of the promotion came from Markiplier’s own fanbase online instead of a big Hollywood-style advertising campaign. The success of the film has also started conversations about how online creators can release movies without depending on major studios.
YouTuber Markiplier says YouTube was the right home for Iron Lung
During the panel, Markiplier said he always felt loyal to YouTube because it helped build his career. According to him, releasing Iron Lung there made complete sense. Fans who missed the movie in theaters will now get a chance to watch it from home only a few months after its cinema release.
