Youtuber describes Pontins as 'warzone' and finds hair in fridge

A Youtuber shared his experiences staying in Southport's Pontins holiday camp and branded the site a "warzone".

Tim Lindon, who runs a travel channel called Walk With Me Tim, decided to spend the night in the Southport camp which has over 2,000 'terrible' reviews on Trip Advisor. The 700 chalet home was built in 1970 at the height of the British Holiday Camp Industry.

Although many camps have since closed in the face of stiff competition from cheap package holidays abroad, Southport remains part of the Pontins empire and continues to operate as a holiday camp. The video was posted to Tim's YouTube channel on May 31 and has already racked up over 80,000 views.

Tim arrived at the holiday park to find out that the reception was closed and he had to get his keys from security. After struggling to find where he was staying he eventually came up to his second-floor room were Tim was confronted with paint peeling off the door and window frames.

He said: "I can't believe I've just turned up on holiday and it looks like I've just entered a warzone." While exploring his room Tim described the kitchen as "not too bad" but did find loose hair in the fridge. Upon entering the bedroom Tim described it as "musty" he said: "It smells like someone has been sleeping in here recently."

Tim then found stains on the wall close to his bed and a duvet with grass and what he described as "bits of dead fly on it". He then decided to venture out to see what the park had to offer. Tim, who lives in Great Yarmouth, said: "All the windows are absolutely filthy and there has been swearing and graffiti all on them. It's not very nice."

When Tim made it to the main part of the camp nearly all the activities were closed including the pool, the café, and the bumper cars. He said: "I've just checked in ready to start my holiday and nothing is open why does everything close at 4pm, especially in a holiday park."

Speaking on his stay the YouTuber said: "It definitely needs some TLC. You can see they are doing some bits in the apartments but what is funny is they are only painting in the areas it is actually needed.

"The floor was clean but the walls were absolutely gross. There are stains pretty much everywhere in the kitchen, in the bedroom, and the living room."

Britannia Hotels, which operates Pontins, has been approached for a comment. Tim's YouTube channel and the full video can be found here.
