YouTube star Stromedy names Jake Paul as main inspiration ahead of boxing debut

YouTube star Stromedy has listed Jake Paul as his primary influence in boxing ahead of his debut on Saturday night.

The Canadian social media sensation, whose name is Kyle Godfrey, will face off with American Tik Tok star Austin Sprinz at the OVO Arena Wembley.

And he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul by landing an early win before taking more fights in the future.

He has been training with professionals at a Los Angeles gym, alongside teammate DK Money, and says that he has taken a lot of inspiration from the Ohio native as he prepares for his first fight.

"I've just been following Jake mostly," he told Mirror Fighting in an exclusive chat. "That guy's going balistic.

"Jake is smart as f***, he really did it smartly, he made the manoeuvre smooth."

Paul's forward thinking, as well as his boxing ability, are big factors in what makes Godfrey think so highly of him and look up to his career.

"I'm definitely thinking ten years into the future type of stuff," he added. "I've even got real estate stuff going on on the side so I'm always thinking ahead, planning ahead.

"I really like what Jake Paul has done, it's lit, he's got both sides of the skill in boxing and the entertainment value behind him.

"Jake's done it really well, I think everyone can agree on that."

"This time fans can expect something different, we've been taking this really seriously," he said of his own bout, having only been seen prior in sparring footage.

"We're going up to Big Bear in California for high elevation training, we've been running miles and miles every day, two sessions a day, pad work and sparring.

"That was something I'd never done, and I love the build-up to the fight more than everything, that's the lit part and I'm really excited."

Godfrey and Sprinz have exchanged diss tracks in the lead-up to the fight, a move straight out of the Paul playbook.

But the Canadian admits that he isn't quite a musician, and says that he is only doing it to promote the event for fans looking to see bad blood between the pair.

"All my s*** is pretty a**," he admitted. "This is mainly for the entertainment, the fun value of it and I want to bring the hype to it.

"I'm not trying to be a rapper or some s*** - the boxing match is always the grand finale of a bunch of s*** talking before."

However, he believes that the fight with Sprinz is going to be a walk in the park, which he will finish early on route to continuing a YouTube boxing career.

"I do know that the fight with Austin is going to be easy," he added. "It'll be so easy, he's slow as a sloth stiff as a rock.

"I think I'm faster than him - I know I am - he's not going to hit me and I think I'm going to land a knockout.

"I think it'll be second or third round."

And the YouTuber is confident that this won't be his last fight, with certain beefs still to settle in the social media space including with Tik Tok star Bryce Hall.

The pair had an infamous one-round sparring session last year in which Hall attempted to use his lengthy time spent preparing for his debut to make Godfrey look silly by sparring without having ever trained.

But they ended up having a competitive session, where some fans even felt that Godfrey had got the better of the spar.

They have since made up and are now friends again, but that hasn't stopped them discussing doing another fight in the future should the interest be there.

"Me and Bryce are hella cool now," he explained. "I don't want to talk too much s*** right now.

"Otherwise it would be me vs Bryce 2.0 - I talked to him about it and he said he'd be down to do another rematch because we only did one round.

"Technically we haven't even fought yet really - that room was a sauna [where the pair sparred in California] and my cardio was a** at the time.

"I'm definitely looking to keep this going, I don't know about calling out professional fighters and s*** but as far as the influencer game I'm down to keep it going.

"It keeps you active, keeps you healthy and I love the s*** talking, it's lit."
