YouTube boxer Jake Paul loses $250,000 on first game of new NFL season

Jake Paul lost $250,000 after backing either the Buffalo Bills or the Los Angeles Rams to run the ball in the first play of the NFL season.

YouTube star Paul has generated huge wealth from his fighting career in the past couple of years and will take to the ring in his sixth professional bout against Anderson Silva on October 29 at the Gila River Arena in Phoenix. As he continued to be thrown into the limelight, Paul has made several wagers with people during his career including promoter Eddie Hearn where he bet $1 million on Amanda Serrano to beat Katie Taylor, but the bet was eventually cancelled.

He is known for being a fan of the NFL and had already placed a bet joining forces with rapper Rick Ross to stake $1 million on Miami Dolphins winning next year's hallmark Super Bowl. Paul then placed a wager on the opening day of the season on the first play being a run between the LA Rams and the Buffalo Bills.

However, his latest wager backfired in dramatic fashion as the opening play of the season was a pass from the Buffalo Bills, who also scored a touchdown on the opening drive during their convincing victory. During his latest episode of BS w/ Jake Paul, he can be seen reacting in devastation to his significant financial loss after making the wager with Marco Parlay, his friend and professional gambler.

He spoke about the loss during the video, telling viewers: "Look some things don't always go to plan, I will be back and Marco I challenge you to a double or nothing bet. Bucaneers vs Cowboys, $500,000 on the opening play, let's make the bet again or nothing. Even though I lost around $250,000 I have the Bills defence on my fantasy team and they scored me 18 points so things aren't too bad."

Paul's other wager has begun well with the Dolphins rallying to a comfortable win over the New England Patriots on their opening day of the NFL season as they look to make a charge to becoming a leading contender. Paul has spoken with fondness about the NFL since launching his career in the squared circle, and is even eyeing a future venture on the field alongside his ring exploits.

"Right now obviously boxing is the focus and it takes up so much time, but I would love to act and I have some ideas for some movies and stuff like that," he said. "I like action comedy. That's always my favourite. And that's like the roles I sort of see myself playing after boxing.

"I'm either going to go to the NFL or, or become an actor, I'm still deciding, but those are my to-do list." He later added: “Slot receiver I would play, I’ve got hands. If you get me some of those sticky Nike gloves, I’ll be up in there scoring touch downs and you’re going to see me on SportsCenter’s highlight reel.”
