Youth beaten to death in public view, brothers held in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 28-year-old man was murdered in full public view by two brothers in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area on Friday. The reason is said to be a monetary dispute. Police have arrested both the accused.

The murder was captured on a CCTV camera. In the footage, it can be seen that a man, wearing a t-shirt and shorts, was walking when one of the attackers came running and started a fist fight. Another person, who came on a scooty, joined the attack. Later, another man tried to intervene and removed one of the attackers. But the other accused mercilessly kept attacking the victim, who was lying on the ground, with bricks and other things. Several other people were standing and watching the incident from a distance.

The deceased has been identified as Narender alias Bunty, a resident of Azadpur. He was earlier involved in robbery, theft, and snatching cases.

At 2.15 pm on Friday, police received a call about the incident. “The caller informed us that a person was injured with a blade. A team from the local police station reached the spot and the victim was sent to a hospital. Later, he was referred to a higher centre where he was declared brought dead,” an officer said.

Deputy commissioner of police (northwest) Usha Rangnani said, it was revealed during the inquiry that he was assaulted by Rahul Kali (22), another bad character of Adarsh Nagar police station, and his brother Rohit Kali (20). Rahul was involved in snatching, robbery, and arms act cases.

“The victim was demanding money for drugs. Rahul got annoyed and called his brother in Mandir Wali Gali in Azadpur village and stabbed him with a blade and hit him on his head with bricks,” the officer said.

A case under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC was registered at Adarsh Nagar police station. During raids, Rahul and Rohit, both residents of Azadpur, were arrested. “Rahul was nabbed from Adarsh Nagar whereas his brother was caught near a bus stop in Shalimar Bagh. We are probing whether he was trying to leave the city,” the officer said.
