Youssoufa Moukoko explains Borussia Dortmund decision amid Newcastle United transfer links

Youssoufa Moukoko admits he was 'honoured' by rival interest but believes he can 'develop perfectly' at Borussia Dortmund. Newcastle United were linked with a move for the Bundesliga rising star but the teenager has now extended his contract until 2026.

Speculation was mounting over the 18-year-old's future with his contract at the Signal Iduna Park due to expire in the summer, with Barcelona and Chelsea also credited with an interest. Moukoko has enjoyed a breakout season so far, netting six goals and registering six assists.

Eddie Howe has spoken of the need to sign a new attacker before the window closes, with Newcastle sanctioning the exit of Chris Wood on an initial loan deal. Moukoko was tipped as a potential signing, and while the teenager was flattered by the interest shown elsewhere, he is confident he is in the right place to take his 'next step'.

He told the club's website: "It's no secret that I feel good at BVB. I played in the youth teams, took my first steps in professional football here and now I'm ready to take the next step in my development together with the club. I feel the trust of the coaching staff and I have an environment here in which I can develop perfectly.

"Of course I was honoured by the interest of other clubs, but ultimately it's a heart decision. The fans have always supported me and I want to give something back to them and the club."
