Youri Tielemans: Leicester star does not want transfer uncertainty ‘to drag on’ amid Arsenal interest

Brendan Rodgers says Youri Tielemans does not want uncertainty over his future to drag on.

The Leicester City midfielder does have interest from Arsenal, although no formal offer has emerged so far this summer.

Tielemans has only one year to go on his contract at the King Power Stadium and Rodgers has previously admitted the club must sell before they can buy after a frustrating transfer window.

Leicester are the only club in Europe’s top seven divisions not to make a signing this summer and welcome Brentford on Sunday in the first game of their Premier League campaign.

Both Tottenham and Manchester United have also been touted as landing spots for Tielemans, who moved to the East Midlands from Monaco in the summer of 2019 after initially joining on loan that January.

In 2021, the Belgian international scored the goal to win the club their first ever FA Cup against Chelsea but looks set to leave Leicester either this summer or next, when he will be a free agent.

Speaking after a pre-season win over Sevilla, Rodgers said: “There is that possibility [Tielemans could leave] but there has not been anything for him, we haven’t had any approaches to the club yet on that.

“Of course it is in the back of the mind, that sort of what-if scenario, but he doesn’t want anything to drag on either."
