Your investment account can grow quickly when your parents cover some of your bills. That can create a strange financial picture: the brokerage balance looks increasingly independent while the household budget still relies on someone else.

There is nothing automatically wrong with family help. Parents sometimes help adult children with rent, groceries, insurance, tuition, childcare, or other expenses. The question changes when someone treats that support as proof that they can already support themselves.
