Your Indian Hourglass Figure Was Never Too Much, Western Fashion Templates Were Wrong

The Template Was Built Without You

The Western size chart was standardised in the mid-twentieth century using measurements collected almost entirely from European and North American women. That is not a grievance, it is a fact of how the garment industry scaled. What it produced was a sizing logic that assumes a particular ratio between bust, waist, and hip, a particular torso length, a particular hip-to-shoulder relationship. The Indian hourglass body, which tends to carry more volume through the lower hip and thigh, sits its waist higher relative to the hip, and often has a shorter distance between shoulder and waist, fits none of those ratios cleanly. So you have spent years being told you are a size that does not fit, or that the fit "runs small," or that you should size up and take it to a tailor. The problem was never your body. The problem was that the chart was drawn around someone else.
