That box in the garage labeled “miscellaneous” could contain $20 worth of junk, $200 worth of useful gear, or one surprisingly valuable item hiding underneath a collection of dead batteries. The hard part is figuring out which is which before everything gets shoved into a donation pile or hauled to the dump.
Five years of neglect also changes the question. An item does not have to be new to have resale value, but condition, brand, age, completeness, demand, and local interest can dramatically change the price. A dusty tool with its original case might attract a buyer, while a perfectly functional off-brand gadget could struggle to get someone to carry it away.
