Maho Magic Bar is extending its Newcastle run after a sell-out opening weekend.
This quirky and crazy, hedonistic night out in Tokyo, full of magic, mischief and mayhem, can now be experienced until Sunday, May 1.
Direct from Japan, Maho Magic Bar sits alongside the Spiegeltent in Civic Park, setting it ablaze like a neon-lit happy snap of Shinjuku. Step inside and you find a bespoke and gorgeously refined bar and entertainment space spread across six performance areas.
Take a seat at the bar and order your drink of choice from the carefully curated authentic Japanese drinks menu. Sip from a traditional cedar masu cup on the highest-grade Junmai Daiginjo sake; treat yourself to a cocktail made with sake, vodka or gin; indulge in a Nikka whiskey; or savour an Umeshu, a refreshing Japanese liqueur made from an infusion of sweet plums and green tea flavouring.
Your 'flame bartender' is James Burgess, who has previously worked at prestige venues such as famed party mansion The Manor.
Then, five consummate master magicians perform an exclusive magic show at your table - creating an unforgettable, multi-sensory and interactive experience. Johnny Balance is the ringleader - a magician, juggler, balancer and MC. Kaori Kitazawa is a young Japanese magician based in Tokyo; Jonio is one of Japan's most awarded magicians; Sarito is a daredevil with a high-risk repertoire; and Shohgo Yamashita is pioneering a new genre of magic - magic with a story that uses film production.
"Novocastrians love great entertainment and have flocked to our crazy night-out in Tokyo," Broad Encounters director Kirsten Siddle says.
"Seeing close-up magic really does inspire awe, and the fun, energy and personalities of our master Japanese magicians take it to the next level."
Tickets to the one-hour Maho Magic Bar experience start at $49 plus a booking fee.
