Youngsters lead the way in keeping East Kilbride school active

An East Kilbride primary school got all sporty this week.

Greenburn School, which caters for children with additional support needs (ASN), kicked-off their sports week with a very special presentation to show off the school’s young sports leaders.

Six boys have been working very hard over the last six weeks to complete a specially made, bespoke young sports leaders training course.

This is something that is delivered by South Lanarkshire’s Active Schools co-ordinaters within the upper stages of mainstream primary schools.

Greenburn are the first school to deliver this within an ASN setting.

Principal teacher, Pamela Walker, tailored the course to suit the needs of the children and Craig Allerdice, Active Schools co-ordinator, helped to deliver it to the children.

Ms Walker said: “The boys have worked so hard and were delighted to receive a special hoodie that they can wear around the school to show off their new sporting responsibilities.

“They launched into their responsibilities straight away by organising a PE session for some of the younger children in the school and did so well - we are looking forward to them helping with lots more sporting activities.”

She added: “We ended our sports week with our sports day with lots of great activities, sporty fun and big races at the end.

Every child received a special medal and certificate for all of their hard work and effort.

“Well done to all of the children and the staff who pulled out all the stops to make this such a fun, exciting experience for the children.”
