Young woman killed in horror crash on moorland road named as inquest opens into her death

A young woman killed in a horror crash on a moorland road on the outskirts of Rochdale has been named as an inquest opens into her death. Nailah Noreen, 26, died at the scene of the smash on Halifax Road at Blackstone Edge, Littleborough, on Friday, July 22.

An inquest into her death was formally opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court this morning (Tuesday). Coroner Catherine McKenna heard details about the circumstances surrounding Ms Noreen's death.

Police coroner's officer Jane Scullion told the hearing: "On July 22, Nailah had been driving her vehicle along the A58 Halifax Road in Littleborough. Whilst driving along, she has struck a kerb causing her vehicle to veer off the road and collided with a fence.

"This section of fence has struck Nailah, causing traumatic injuries to her body." Ms Noreen, of Prince Street, Rochdale, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A post-mortem examination has since given her cause of death as 'head injuries', said Ms Scullion. Three passengers who were in the vehicle at the time of the crash have since been arrested, the inquest heard.

A police investigation into Ms Noreen's death remains ongoing. A date for a full inquest hearing has been set for December 8.

Greater Manchester Police previously said they were called to the crash, which involved a black Audi A3, at 11.37pm on July 22. The road was shut in both directions between Turvin Road and the Pennine Way for several hours following the incident.

A spokesperson for GMP confirmed that three women, aged 25 to 26, who were passengers in the vehicle had been arrested on suspicion of supplying a psychoactive substance.
