Young West Lothian cyclist attacked by thugs in underpass as luxury bike stolen

A young West Lothian man has been attacked after he was approached while cycling through a local underpass.

The 22-year-old was robbed by two thugs in Livingston in the early hours of Friday (March 25) as he tried to make his way home.

Police in the area have now launched an appeal to trace those responsible, after the young man was targeted in the underpass between Almondvale East Road and Almondvale Drive.

Cycling through at around 3am, the man had been approached by the pair and asked for a cigarette.

He was then punched in the face, before the two men made off with his his bicycle, an Apollo Phase, blue in colour with a 20in frame worth a three figure sum.

The first suspect is described as white, aged in his late 20s with ginger hair, and of an athletic build. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black puffer style jacket.

The other man is described as white and aged in his late 20s.

Detective Sergeant Lee McCall, of Livingston CID, said: “Fortunately the man did not require medical treatment but was left shocked by what happened.

"We are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything before and after the assault to get in touch. Likewise, if you know who these men might be please contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1435 of Friday, 25 March, 2022, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
