Young Wales international follows big brother in leaving English Premiership club

Wales U20s fly-half Jac Lloyd has been released by Bristol Bears little more than a week after older brother Ioan confirmed he would also be leaving Ashton Gate.

The elder Lloyd brother confirmed last week that he will join the Scarlets next season as he looks to get his Test career back on track after a few years away from the Wales team. The 22-year-old won a handful of caps back in 2020, but hasn't featured for Wales since, prompting the move to Llanelli where he will compete with Sam Costelow for the fly-half jersey.

While his departure from the Gallagher Premiership side was already confirmed, Jac Lloyd's somewhat unexpected presence among the club's academy leavers was confirmed when Pat Lam announced his squad for next season. The 20-year-old made three senior appearances for the club after signing a first professional deal in 2021.

The Cardiff-born outside-half made four appearances for Wales U20s in the 2022 Six Nations. His next club is unknown, but it's feasible his hometown side could be interested.

The Arms Park outfit are in need of a fly-half with Jarrod Evans and Rhys Priestland leaving. Cardiff have also been linked to Rhys Patchell, who is leaving the Scarlets, but Lloyd could offer a more realistic alternative with money tight in the capital.

Elsewhere at Bristol, another Welsh fly-half Callum Sheedy has been confirmed to be part of the English club's squad for the 2023/24 season.
