A young teenager was rushed to hospital in a serious condition following a stabbing last night.
Sinn Fein TD Chris Andrews has called for more resources to be put into Dublin's south-inner city to tackle rising youth violence.
Gardai were alerted to the scene of the incident at City Quay on Sunday night.
The boy, 13, was removed to Temple Street Hospital by Dublin Fire Brigade where his condition is described as being "serious", according to gardai.
Deputy Andrews told Dublin Live that locals around City Quay have been living in "absolute fear" due to the constant violence.
He said: "Every single evening from 4pm there’s kids [fighting]. Everyone was saying it’s only a matter of time before somebody was stabbed or killed.
"[The community] has been kept hostage for effectively because of the events that happen every evening. The gardai need to be involved and Dublin City Council needs to be involved to ensure that whatever measures can be taken are taken."
Deputy Andrews said the issue needs to be "addressed at a deeper level and that’s investing in facilities and jobs and education in the local communities in the south inner city".
He added: "On the northside, they produced the Mulvey report that outlined that there should be an increase in funds and resources for working with young people. The same resources should be put into the south inner-city."
Deputy Andrews said that while most of the young people and their parents are "fantastic", resources are needed for the few who are hard to engage with.
"One of the local youth clubs on Pearse Street has no permanent place for them to work out of. They’ve no dedicated space where they can work with young people.
"Nobody’s born a thug so we have to invest in our young people and the community."
Speaking about last night's incident, a garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai in Kevin Street are investigating all the circumstances in relation to the alleged assault of a teenager that occurred at City Quay, Dublin 2 on 26th February 2022.
"The youth was removed from the scene and taken to Temple Street Hospital by Dublin Fire Brigade. His condition is described as serious and investigations are ongoing."
