A YOUNG rugby fan from Fife has lived out his dream after playing an important role during the Rugby World Cup.
Rhys Edwards (below), aged nine, led Scotland onto the pitch against Romania in Lille as a “Defender of Tomorrow” and as a mascot.
Scotland beat Romania 84-0 in their last World Cup match and will face off against Ireland in the side’s final group game this Saturday.
The youngster was awarded the role in recognition of his passionate enthusiasm for the game, whilst going above and beyond for his team and club.
In a written submission, Rhys had been nominated by his coach for being a player who always inspires young players around him and had been praised for his positive attitude and sense of humour.
In total, 96 children have been chosen from around the world by Defender, the worldwide partner of the Rugby World Cup, to be rewarded for their dedication to making a difference in their local communities.
