A never before seen picture of a young Queen Elizabeth was revealed tonight as the Royal Family marked their first Christmas without her.
The heartwarming image was shared by the Princess of Wales tonight during the Royal Carols: Together at Christmas programme, shown on ITV.
Kate sat with three members of the public who went ‘above and beyond’ to help their communities this year.
The Princess and midwife Carys Hammond, 39, volunteer Akbar Khan, 50, and Ex-Veteran Lionel Digby, 87, took turns sharing pictures from the festive period that were dear to their hearts.
It was during this chat that Kate revealed the black and white image of a young Queen Elizabeth taking part in a Christmas performance.
Kate said: "It really resonated with me seeing her majesty here doing the production on Christmas Day during the second World War, which I thought was really special.
"I can remember doing this sort of thing as a little girl too.
"When I saw this photograph, it's wonderful now, I see my children's love for doing this sort of thing, putting on little shows for us."
Carys said: "She looks really happy doesn't she?"
Kate joked that she often gets invited to join in and they end up dancing around the table.
The three other guests also shared heartfelt pictures that reflected on the past year.
Carys works as a midwife at Whiston Hospital on Merseyside where she’s been for 20 years and she often works on Christmas day itself.
Akbar runs a children’s disability club in Bradford called Bradford PHAB Club where he’s volunteered for 38 years to help deliver food parcels including on Christmas day.
Military veteran Lionel often spends his Christmas days volunteering with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas lunches to the lonely or those struggling during this winter period.
He revealed how he had sadly lost his wife Yvonne this year after 64 years of marriage.
Later on in the show, Kate joined her husband Prince William and their children for the Together at Christmas carol concert.
The service aired on ITV and was dedicated to the Queen as the Royal family spends their first Christmas together without her.
Craig David, Melanie C, and Alfie Boe all performed along with the Westminster Abbey choir at the service. William and Dame Kristin Scott Thomas delivered readings.
A Christmas tree in the abbey was decorated with small Paddington Bear decorations, a nod to a popular sketch the late queen featured in.
Narrated by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Royal Carols: Together At Christmas was filmed on December 15 in front of an audience of more than 1,800 people at Westminster Abbey.
