Perth hill runner Struan Gatherer has earned a Scotland call-up for this weekend’s Junior Home International.
The 15-year-old will make the journey south on Saturday, September 3 to compete in Ambleside.
Struan, a Perth Grammar School pupil, was selected for the U17 men’s team alongside Thomas Hilton (Moorfoot Runners), Rowan Taylor (Lasswade AC) and Dylan Daunt (Edinburgh AC).
It was a proud moment for his club, Perth Strathtay Harriers, when news of his inclusion in the team surfaced ahead of the event.
Club president Jim Hunter this week told the Perthshire Advertiser: “It’s great news and we’re having a fantastic season with the representation. Again, this is testament to the athletes and their coaches.
“Struan is brilliant and was one of our very young junior members. He is a hard-working wee chap and has great things ahead of him, in my opinion. This is what you can do if you have the willingness to work hard.
“The family are great supporters of the club and what we do.”
Struan is not the first Perth Strathtay Harrier to impress in this particular field and his talent on the hills follows in the footsteps of fellow club member Archie McRonald.
“We are much more than just down on the track,” added Jim. “It shows the diversity of our sport.”
