Young people caring for someone with a health condition could be due annual payment worth nearly £360

Social Security Scotland has confirmed that Young Carer Grant is now worth £359.65 each year for 16, 17 or 18-year-olds who spend an average of 16 hours per week caring for someone with a health condition who receives a disability benefit. The devolved benefit is paid annually and is unique to young people in Scotland.

The payment increased from £326.65 to £359. 65 on April 1 as part of the annual uprating. The Scottish Government has increased devolved benefit payments in-line with the 10.1 per cent uprating being applied to State Pension and most benefits delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The Scottish Government introduced the Young Carer Grant in October 2019 to help young people with caring responsibilities. The payment can be claimed by youngsters in school, in further education, employed or unemployed once a year as long as long as they remain eligible.
