Young man to have both legs amputated days before 21st birthday after catching flu and sepsis

A young man is set to undergo a life-altering operation that will see him lose both his legs after he contracted a form of flu, pneumonia and later sepsis.

Levi Dewey, from Derbyshire in the UK, will have the surgery on January 24, 2023, after he contracted a form of flu, pneumonia and later sepsis. The sporty lad will undergo the op just two days before his 21st birthday.

The 20-year-old was initially taken to Royal Derby Hospital with flu-like symptoms and breathing difficulties on December 7, 2022. His family say doctors told them he was one of the sickest patients in the country at the time and was given a 30 per cent chance of survival, reports Derbyshire Live.
