Young man seriously injured after horror crash involving electric bike and lorry in Dublin

A man travelling on an electric bike has been seriously injured following a crash involving a large truck in Dublin this morning.

The collision happened at around 6.15am on Wednesday morning on the N81 near the Jobstown House pub in Tallaght.

The man, aged in his 20s, was taken to Tallaght hospital by ambulance where his injuries are understood to be serious.

The lorry driver did not require hospital treatment following the incident.

The road was closed off due to the crash and local diversions were in place.

Earlier today, Dublin Fire Brigade tweeted: "The N81 is closed near the Jobstown House following a HGV road traffic collision this morning. Diversions are in place."

A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí at Tallaght are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in Tallaght, Dublin 24, on Wednesday 8th February, 2023.

"At approximately 6:15am, Gardaí and Emergency Services were alerted to a collision involving a lorry and an e-bike on the N81 in Tallaght.

"The collision occurred on the outbound lanes of the N81 between the junctions of Cheeverstown road and Fortunestown road.

"The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was removed from the scene by Ambulance to Tallaght University Hospital. His injuries are understood to be serious. The driver of lorry did not require hospital treatment."

Gardai are appealing for anyone witnessed this incident, or anyone with video or dashcam footage, to come forward.
