Young man assaulted at Cork gig in CUH with serious injuries

A concert-goer is currently undergoing treatment at Cork University Hospital after he sustained serious injuries during a shocking assault that took place at a massive show over the weekend.

In a disturbing video shared widely on social media, a young man can be seen having his head stamped on after being knocked to the ground.

The man, aged in his 20s, subsequently needed emergency medical treatment after being assaulted at the One Day Festival at the Marquee near the Marina on Saturday night, Gardaí confirmed.

A Garda spokesperson told CorkBeo on Monday: "Gardaí are investigating an incident of assault which occurred at a live music event in Cork City on Saturday, June 24.

"A man aged in his 20s was taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries."

While "no arrests have been made at this time" Gardaí are confirmed to have spoken to witnesses as well as collecting statements, with investigations ongoing.

Thousands of revellers descended on the giant tent by Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday for a night of various electronic dance music artists on the decks that spanned from 2pm right until the nighttime hours.

Generally, gigs located down in the famous Marquee venue have been relatively untroubled by anti-social behaviour. This particular incident happened despite the large and visible presence of security staff and Gardai at the tent.

In footage of one video that has been circulated widely on social media, at least two people can be seen in an altercation before one male gets knocked to the ground.

As he's down, the other person then stamps on his head, with the victim appearing to be unconscious afterwards.

In another, separate video he can be seen bleeding while being seen to by medical staff.
