Young East Lothian woman killed in devastating hit and run in Canada

An East Lothian woman has been killed in a hit and run in Toronto

30-year-old Erin Yoxall was hit by a white Mercedes in the early hours of Thursday morning, April 14.

According to the Daily Record, emergency services rushed to the scene at Spadina Avenue at 3.15am. They rushed Erin to a nearby hospital with serious injuries but she sadly passes away in the hospital on Saturday.

Her heartbroken mum Roseanne Yoxall told local media outlet Global News the family's grief was "torture".

She added: “(The driver) stopped, they got out, they looked at her and they got back in the car.

“Drive to the conditions — it was early in the morning — does that give you the right to speed? No.

“Words fail. Whatever I say to (the driver) won’t bring Erin back.”

Erin was working as a research assistant at the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence and had been living in Canada for eight years.

Roseanne said all of her daughter's organs would be donated as she hoped it would enrich the lives of “numerous families".

Canadian police continue to hunt the driver who fled the scene at speed.

Officers located the vehicle involved in the incident yesterday and are urging the driver to find a lawyer and hand himself into police.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact local police or Crimestoppers.
