The summer sun was relentless as I hurried along Marylands Road in Westminster, looking for any escape from the oppressive London heat. Nothing about the surroundings suggested I was approaching a celebrated restaurant. Noor Quality Food Centre stood on one side of the road while rows of houses stretched ahead. I checked Google Maps again. It insisted my destination was only 20 metres away, but I seemed to be searching for one of London’s finest Greek Cypriot restaurants in someone’s front garden.
Luckily, the friend I was meeting spotted me from across the road and came to my rescue. We were catching up over a meal at Tsiakkos, a restaurant renowned for its Greek Cypriot food. There was no sign outside, but as I approached, diners were gathered around tiny tables, sipping wine and picking at bowls of olives.
