'You want to feel wanted' - Leeds United's Cody Drameh reveals motive for Cardiff City move and Steve Morison's telling influence

Cody Drameh says boss Steve Morison was a key factor in his decision to move to Cardiff City in January, and claims the capital is the 'perfect place' for him to continue his development.

Drameh produced a stunning showing during the 4-0 win over Peterborough United on Wednesday night, helping Cardiff propel themselves 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

The highlight of the night was arguably his stunning assist for Jordan Hugill, which saw him pick up the ball in his own half before motoring away down the right, eventually squaring for the Cardiff number nine to finish.

The 20-year-old has already made himself a fan favourite in the capital, but perhaps feels there's more to come as he looks to find his feet in the Championship.

The wingback feels he's in good hands under Morison's stewardship, adding that the Cardiff boss has already worked wonders in helping to bring out his obvious talent.

"Credit to Steve as well for bringing the best out of me," he said.

“I had a meeting before my first game. We went through a few clips and the emphasis was on being positive in attack, getting after the left-back or left winger. Attacking-wise, he’s a brought a lot out of me and filled me with a lot of confidence to go and express myself. He’s given me the freedom to play.

"The team helped me play the perfect game. We settled from the start, our attitude helped us to achieve the win and the performance, which was really good.

“I think you saw by the goals we scored and the way we played, that’s how we want to play every game. Barnsley wasn’t quite like that for certain reasons but tonight was how we wanted to play.”

Marcelo Bielsa has clearly been another big influence on the youngster's development. Indeed, the elements of the Argentinian's high-octane footballing philosophy were arguably there for all to see as Drameh put Posh to the sword.

“Some of the stuff you see on the pitch is from Marcelo Bielsa and his coaching staff. That’s credit to them," he continued.

"We have a lot of meetings at Leeds and the feedback from them to me is to be more aggressive and be on the front foot because you see my physique and stuff, I’ve got it, I just need to apply it."

Leeds were initially reluctant to let Drameh go out on loan before he made the move to Cardiff, but the player's desperation for regular first-team football seemingly pushed the move through.

Bielsa will likely be happy with the youngster's early progress in south Wales, although Cardiff boss Morison has already quipped that he would already like the youngster to return again next season.

Drameh says it's that level of enthusiasm and belief from the Cardiff boss that has made settling into life in Cardiff a breeze so far, adding that Morison's burning desire to bring him on board was a key factor in his decision to make the January move.

Asked on his reasons for choosing Cardiff, he said: “For me, it was the manager’s desire to get me in. My agent was telling me he was on the phone to my agent every day and, as a player, you want to feel wanted.

"When you hear the manager’s been on the phone Monday, been on the phone Tuesday, been on the phone Wednesday, I was like ‘this seems like the perfect place to come’.

"He said he’d guarantee me game-time and that’s why I’m here, to play, and the manager’s desire to bring me in, that’s what made it a perfect place for me to come."
