Match of The Day pundits Ashley Williams and Micah Richards were both in agreement it was not a penalty for Everton when Anthony Gordon went down under pressure from Dan Burn. There were accusations of diving from the black and white faithful, but there was a slight knock from the Magpies defender.
Former Manchester City defender, Richards, admitted he had seen penalties gives for similar fouls. VAR did check the on field decision but ruled in favour on the officials decision.
Frank Lampard was unimpressed at full-time, claiming his side should have been awarded the spot kick. The Toffees boss refuted any claims of Gordon diving.
When asked if they agreed with Lampard, Williams said: "Nope. I just don't think there's enough contact really. I can see what Frank Lampard is saying.
"I wouldn't go as far as saying Anthony Gordon has dived, but there's a little bit of contact but not enough to give a penalty in my opinion.
Richards said: "There's probably not enough contact. You've seen them given and there's a little bit of a nudge. The only thing is when you're running at that pace it only takes a little bit of touch to knock you off your stride."
