A simple boiler hack shared by personal finance guru Martin Lewis can help you save a lot of money amid the cost of living crisis. The MoneySavingExpert founder says one little change to your boiler settings can make a big difference to your energy bills.
Martin, who won a National Television Award for best expert last night (October 13), shared a link to the Money Saving Boiler Challenge website on Twitter, which includes step by step instructions. The easy trick works for combi boilers and more than 40,000 people have signed up to say they've done it, reports LeicestershireLive.
The website states: "If 10 million households turned down the flow temperature on their combi boilers to 60C or below, this could wipe £1 billion off UK energy bills and save 1.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions – the equivalent of nearly six million transatlantic flights."

This change makes your boiler work more efficiently by reducing the temperature of the water that comes from your tap. It's estimated the hack can save the average household around £112 a year.
There are around 15 million homes with combi boilers in the country. The website continues: "People could be saving energy and money simply by ensuring their boiler is running as efficiently as possible, but many people aren't aware they can change their boiler settings."
A plumber, Waseem Hussain, shared this tip in a TikTok video earlier this year. He said: "My advice is: set it at about 50 degrees, [then] go to your bath and run your bath tap. If that's warm enough, leave it at that. If it’s still too hot, keep going down. The lower you get this, the more gas you’re going to save."
