An ex-reality star on TikTok has captivated audiences with her bonkers love story that ended up with her and her friends and family being swindled out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Her story is so crazy that many think Netflix should pick up the rights to make a movie based on it.
Onyeka Ehie, who some may recognise from the 23rd season of The Bachelor, took to TikTok to share her horror story of a romance which some have likened to The Tinder Swindler. The saga spans across an impressive 27 parts which she’s aptly titled “The Danish Deception,” which admittedly already sounds like it could be the name of a Netflix documentary.
In the first part she outlines her first meeting with the man from Denmark who she met on holiday. The man, whose name is Martin Fredsgaard Andersen, crossed paths with Onyeka in 2022 and immediately his charming attitude put her under his spell. The pair soon entered a relationship as Onyeka was impressed with Martin’s wealth and supposed achievements.
Among other things, Martin claimed that he was a member of the Danish royal family and also a former Olympian. He told her he had a well-paying job and Onyeka seemingly felt no reason to doubt him. The people of TikTok on the other hand were aghast that she never once thought to open Google and type in his name to see if any of his tall tales were actually based in reality.
The lies come out
While the beginning of their relationship was akin to a Disney fairytale, it quickly devolved in something more like The Brothers Grimm fairytales. Despite supposedly being well off and connected to the royal family, Martin soon started asking Onyeka for cash, coming up with a variety of excuses including having a sick father.
Being the trusting person she is, Onyeka sent him the money without a second thought. Time and time again, Martin would ask for money and she would send it. Once again, viewers were horrified by her lack of discernment, how could she not see what was happening? Onyeka reasons that she was in love and simply blind to the truth.
Eventually, the couple tied the knot. Only after they were married did Onyeka come to truly see how the wool had been pulled over her eyes. She reveals that Martin had been blowing his and her money (almost entirely hers) on gambling. Oh and everything else he’d told her was also a lie, he was no royal, he wasn’t an Olympian, he was practically broke, all his money came from Onyeka and her friends and family whom he’d also been able to scam.
Martin had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars
That’s right, all told, Martin swindled Onyeka out of roughly $30,000, but he’d also asked her parents and sister for money in the past and even scammed a friend out of about $300,000 in crypto.
She reveals that they finalized their divorce not too long ago but viewers who followed the whole journey were horrified that it even got to such a point. “Let’s work on survival and discernment queen.” one person sarcastically wrote. Others were a little more sympathetic, giving words of encouragement.
Onyeka’s story proves that not everyone is as trustworthy as they seem, whatever the case, I’m sure we’ll all be back to hear more when this inevitably becomes the next Netflix viral sensation.
