A British-Israeli man who was killed by Hamas during its October 7 terror attacks has been named by his family as Yosef Guedalia.
The 22-year-old was killed by Hamas gunfire while defending the Kibbutz Kfar Aza, a few miles from the Gaza Strip.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Guedalia’s bother Asher said he was “always happy” and a “righteous and good person”.
“He literally saved people minutes before he got shot,” he said.
“He acted with heroism and determination, he continued to fight and didn't think of himself or hesitate… He went in to rescue as many citizens as possible before they got murdered in their homes and to kill as many terrorists as he could.”
Relatives said there was footage of Mr Guedalia carrying injured civilians to safety after Hamas’s attack.
He was about to celebrate his first wedding anniversary, according to reports.
He is among the eleven Britons known to have been killed by Hamas, while at least one has been kidnapped. At least four are still missing.
The Times of Israel reported that Mr Guedalia was part of the elite counter-terror Duvdevan unit of the IDF.
He is survived by his wife Senai, from Massachusetts, and was buried in the Har Hertzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem.
Fellow Briton Nathanel Young is also among those confirmed to have been killed, with his family last week speaking of their grief at their loss.
Mr Young was killed near the Gaza border while he was also defending a kibbutz.
Paying tribute, his brother Eliot said Nathanel “loved life” and had joined the IDF two years ago to “defend his country”.
“That was what he always wanted to do. That’s what he was here for. But he ultimately came to live here and raise a family and have a life,” he said.
He said his brother was known as a DJ among friends because he loved music, saying: “He just loved life. He had a lot of respect for my parents."
