Yodel delivery van ends up submerged in water after being parked on tidal road

A wild swimmer came across something particularly unusual when she went to take a dip on the weekend. Vicky Moran discovered a van submerged in the water on the Aveton Gifford tidal road, near Kingsbridge, on Saturday, August 13.

The tidal road completely floods at high tide and Mrs Moran said she had headed out for a swim during a particularly high tide however, when she arrived, she saw a van in the water in the distanced. The van, which she identified as having the 'Yodel' brand name on the side, was almost entirely submerged with just the top half sticking up out of the water.

It reportedly remained there for some time, Devon Live reports. Mrs Moran said: "The driver was sat on a bench seemingly waiting for the water to recede. We sent a lady on a boat to offer him a ride to dry land. Apparently he still had parcels to deliver in the van.

"You should never go as close to high tide as he did but people get caught out all of the time. It was also a very high spring tide which was why I’d chosen that particular night to swim."

This isn't the first time such a thing has happened. Cars costing between tens and hundreds of thousands of pounds have been stranded on beaches or submerged in the sea or similar - it happens more often than you think, which is why we compiled a list of them here.
