In addition to serving as the President of the United States, Donald Trump is involved in various business ventures. One of these is Trump Mobile, a company that offers mobile phones at relatively subsidised rates. However, the same has recently become embroiled in significant controversy.
Trump Mobile: A genuine business or a scam?
In early December, a video started circulating on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), alerting users that many individuals who had paid a approximately $100 down payment to receive the T1 phone from Trump Mobile had yet to receive their devices, even after a considerable wait. The video also mentioned that, as compensation for their investment of money, time, and effort, people were being offered the option to buy refurbished iPhones and Samsung phones for $225, which were up to 3 years old, despite these phones being available for much lower prices on other sites like eBay. What’s even more disheartening is that the down payment they made for the phones is non-refundable, leaving them with the choice of losing their money entirely or purchasing something they don’t really want for an additional cost.
Apple Leaker claims T1 phone is made in China despite the “brought to life in the USA” claims
Since Donald Trump began his second term as President of the United States, he has consistently harped on the need for America to achieve self-sufficiency. He has addressed this issue at rallies, conferences, and during press interactions. At times, he has taken drastic measures to support this goal. For example, his tariff policies and his recent refusal to maintain good agricultural relations with other countries were all actions aimed at achieving this outcome. In the telecommunications sector as well, Trump is promoting self-sufficiency. Earlier, he had announced the launch of the T1 phone, which was featured on his website and open for enrollment before its release. The phone claimed to be made in the USA, among other features; however, recent information suggests that this claim may not be accurate. On Wednesday, the popular X page Apple Leaker revealed that the T1 mobile, which previously stated it was “made in the USA”, has now been updated to say it was “brought to life in the USA” after realizing that the original claim was difficult to substantiate, indicating that the product is actually manufactured in China using an OEM design and then packaged in the USA. The page stated:
“It has been over 6 months since Trump Mobile’s T1 Phone was announced and there is still no launch window in sight. They promised it would launch in September, then October, then November and went completely silent. They claimed it was “made in USA” but once they realised it wasn’t possible, they pivoted to “brought to life in the USA” which just means it’s made in China using an OEM design and packaged in the USA.”
