TIRUPATI: Yet another bus driver was physically assaulted for honking in the state of Andhra Pradesh and this time the unruly incident was reported in the temple city of Tirupati on Friday.
While the incident of a physical attack by a mob on an APSRTC bus driver for honking near Kavali in Nellore district recently is still fresh in the minds of the people, a similar incident unfolded in Tirupati, where a private bus driver came under the attack this time.
According to the Tirupati east police, a group of youngsters were celebrating a birthday in the middle of the road near Lakshmipuram circle in the city on Friday and the driver of a private travels bus identified as Ganesh honked at them and asked them to clear the road for free movement of traffic.
Enraged by the driver's honk, the group of youngsters entered into an altercation with the driver and assaulted him. They even pelted stones at the driver and the bus at one stage.
The video clip of the incident went viral in the social media on Friday.
The injured driver Ganesh later approached the Tirupati east police and lodged a formal complaint, based on which the police booked a case under IPC sec 341 (wrongful restraint), sec 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), sec 324 and sec 427 r/w 34.
According to Tirupati east CI Maheswar Reddy, two among the accused were arrested by the police and special teams were formed to arrest the others who managed to escape.
