Jefferson White is set to reprise his popular Yellowstone role in the second season of the spin-off series Marshals.
The 36-year-old actor had played the “universally loved” character of Jimmy Hurdstrom in all five seasons of Yellowstone, the hit neo-western series that aired on Paramount between 2018 and 2024.
Fans last saw Jimmy on the Four Sixes Ranch in Yellowstone, with many hoping that he would be make an appearance in the 6666 spin-off about the historic plot of land that was announced by Paramount in 2021. However, show creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan revealed last month that he had aborted plans for the show.
“I’m thrilled to dive into the world of Marshals and continue exploring the American West,” White said in a statement on Wednesday (16 September).
“The cast and crew are stacked full of my favourite actors and filmmakers, and I’m honoured to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.”
During a virtual press day, CBS confirmed plans for Jimmy to return, with Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton in Yellowstone, saying that he and showrunner Spencer Hudnut planned to “delight the audience” with the addition.
Marshals is one of four existing Yellowstone spinoffs to have aired since 2021, with the others including the prequel series 1883 and 1923, and the ongoing sequel series Dutton Ranch, fronted by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.
On a podcast last month, Sheridan opened up about the decision not to go ahead with 6666 – which was announced in 2021 and would have been set on Texas’s Four Sixes Ranch, a location used in the original Yellowstone .
“There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalise that ranch,” he told the Rodeo Time podcast. “People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.”
The actual ranch was purchased by a group of investors led by Sheridan in 2020, with screenwriter suggesting that the real-world function of the ranch was a factor in deciding not to make the 6666 series.
“I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch,” he said. “I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it.”
Marshals is set to return on 4 October 2026.
