Yellowstone 'ending after season five amid friction with Kevin Costner behind the scenes'

Yellowstone is reportedly set to end following its fifth season, amid speculation that there is tension between Kevin Costner and the show's creator Taylor Sheridan.

The series - which follows the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana - debuted in 2018 and has already spawned several spin-off shows including 1883.

The fifth season of Yellowstone began in November last year and the first half concluded in January. The second half of the latest season has yet to be released through.

And it has now been suggested that the show might not get a sixth season, amid reports that there is "friction" behind-the-scenes between star Kevin and showrunner Taylor.

The New York Post reports that multiple sources have confirmed that the show is set to end after the second half of season five, which has yet to be given an air date.

The outlet further states that it isn't known when the show will return for the remaining episodes of the season, adding that it's not known when it will even film such.

Yellowstone has faced claims that Kevin - who plays patriarch John Dutton III - won't return amid a dispute with Taylor. A source told the outlet: "It's the same as with any showrunner and big star - there's respect, but there's friction".

"Hopefully Kevin will return for the remaining episodes, if everyone works together, but it looks like 'Yellowstone' will end after this season," the source further stated.

Among the claims in recent months has been speculation that Kevin refused to spend more than a single week on the second half of the season due to a film project. This however has since been denied by a rep for the actor.

"The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of 'Yellowstone' is an absolute lie," the rep told Puck News in February, as reported by the NY Post.

It has now been claimed that filming for the second part of the season was due to get underway last year but scripts reportedly weren't ready at the time.

A source told the NY Post that Kevin then "made himself available" at the start of the year but "again nothing was ready". They added that he had already committed to his other projects.
