The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow and ice affecting the North East this week.
Forecasters say snow showers and icy surfaces will bring some travel disruption to the region. The weather warning runs between 12pm on Tuesday, December 13, and 12pm on Thursday, December 15.
A Met Office spokesperson said: "Wintry showers will affect many areas of northern Scotland and parts of North East England during this period. A few centimetres of snow are likely to accumulate at low levels with the potential for as much as 15-20cm over higher ground. In addition, ice is likely to form on untreated surfaces, mainly where some of the showers fall as sleet close to coasts."

The areas affected by the weather warning include Durham, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, Redcar and Cleveland, South Tyneside, Stockton-on-Tees and Sunderland.
People are being warned to expect disruption on the roads and public transport. The Met Office says some roads and railways are likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. There may be injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces and there are set to be icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The warning comes as residents across the North East woke up to snow and freezing temperatures on Sunday morning. Many parts of the region were blanketed with the white stuff, including Consett, Leadgate and Castleside in County Durham.
