Yellow weather warning issued for snow in the Highlands and north-east

A YELLOW weather warning has been issued for large parts of the north of Scotland.

The Met Office has said that snow showers will hit the Highlands, Perth & Kinross, Shetland, Orkney and parts of the north-east from the start of Wednesday until midnight on the same day.

The public has been advised that up to 5cm of snow could fall in lower-level areas while up to 10cm could be expected in places above 200m.

Blizzard conditions in the strong northerly winds as well as some drifting are also to be expected.

The Met Office also warned that public transport is likely to be affected by the conditions, with journey times expected to be longer for motorists, trains and buses.
