Years after killing his ex-partner Cheryl Ardler and disposing of her body, Dennis Andrew French raped another girlfriend, threatening her with a hammer before detaining her in their home.
French, 43, is already behind bars over the manslaughter of Ms Ardler who was killed in December 12, 2012.
Her skeletal remains were found in bushland near the couple's Cranebrook home in May 2018.
French was sentenced to further time in jail at Campbelltown District Court on Friday for the aggravated sexual assault in July 2016 of another female partner with whom he used ice at the time.
After becoming enraged at the woman, who cannot be named, he ordered her into their bedroom, locked the door and grabbed a hammer from a cupboard.
"Get on your knees and suck my c*** you s*** or I'll hit you in the head with this hammer," he said to her.
French swung the hammer and hit the woman on the arm after she cried and resisted doing what he wanted.
"The degree of humiliation involved in the offending was great," said Judge Tanya Smith.
After the sexual assault was stopped by a neighbour who kicked down the bedroom door, the woman fled to a refuge for the night.
She eventually returned to their Cranebrook home after French apologised.
However, he then boarded up the doors with nails and detained her in the home for a week and a half, smashing her mobile phone, verbally threatening and beating her and making her clean up her own blood.
The woman complained of pain, saying she thought she was pregnant and asked French to call an ambulance.
He refused, only releasing her on her pay day once he ran out of money.
In August 2016, she had a miscarriage at Mt Druitt Hospital and then underwent surgery. French visited her crying and pleading for forgiveness.
French appeared for his sentencing at Campbelltown via video-link from Lithgow jail wearing a green jacket with a disposable face mask around his chin.
He was jailed for maximum sentence of seven-and-a-half years with a non-parole period of four years.
In imposing this sentence, Judge Smith noted French's history of violence against women, including a sentence in 2006 for punching another ex-partner in the face.
He was also convicted in 2001 after he set fire to a girlfriend's house and car when she refused to hand over the car keys and let him drink drive.
Judge Smith noted that French's upbringing included domestic violence, parental neglect and early exposure to alcohol and drugs and left him deprived.
His heavy drinking and drug use when he was young led to damage of his frontal lobe and cognitive difficulties which meant he could not regulate or control his emotional response, two neuropsychologists who gave evidence to the court found.
At the time of the rape, he was consuming cannabis and two to three four-litre casks of wine each day.
Judge Smith expressed concern that French had not shown an interest in undergoing treatment for his drug and alcohol abuse, and recommended that he also take part in a violent offenders program while in custody.
"The court can only be at this stage pessimistic about his prospects of rehabilitation," she said.
This jail time was consolidated with his earlier jail sentence of 10 years with a non-parole period of seven years for the manslaughter of Ms Ardler.
He will now be eligible for parole on June 13, 2028 while his full jail term expires on December 13, 2031.
