The recorder Mr Neil Millard adjourned the case for sentence until February 4.

He ordered a pre-sentence report from the Probation Service but did not reserve the case to himself.

The circumstances of the assault were not detailed in court today.

A full opening of facts in the case will be opened on the day of sentence, followed by mitigation on behalf of Palmer.

Broad Street leads to High Street and forms part of the main stretch of shops, cafes and pubs running through the Cotswolds market town near Bristol.

Palmer was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing next week.
