Since Aaron Judge suffered a toe injury last weekend, the Yankees have been vague about his timetable to return. In the team’s last update, it put the outfielder on the injured list with a contusion and a sprain of the ligament in his right big toe, although he avoided a fracture.
On Saturday, manager Aaron Boone offered the latest update on the superstar, as the swelling in Judge’s toe seems to have subsided for the first time in a week.
“He is doing a little bit better [Friday] and [Saturday],” Boone said, via the New York Post’s Mark Sanchez.
However, it is still too early to tell when Judge will return to action, as team doctors still have to get a better look at the injury when the swelling subsides further. So far, the outfielder has missed the last six games with the injury, and although he is eligible to return next week, it’s unlikely that will be the case.
Judge injured the toe when he collided with the outfield fence at Dodger Stadium while making a spectacular catch on June 3.
The improvement in Judge’s toe has led Boone and the team’s trainers to begin discussing what physical tasks the outfielder can perform this week, assuming as he continues to trend in the right direction, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
On the season, Judge is putting up MVP-like numbers again, with an AL-leading 19 home runs and a 1.078 OPS in 49 games.
