Yamaha hasn’t always been the quickest to jump on the electric bandwagon, but here we are. And honestly, while the flashy electric bikes and concept machines usually get all the hype, it’s scooters like this that actually move people in huge numbers. These are the real daily drivers, the ones that shape how cities work behind the scenes.
So when a company like Yamaha puts its weight behind something this simple and practical, it actually means a lot.
The JOG Electric leans into that whole idea of being usable without making life complicated. It runs a 1.7 kW (around 2.2 horsepower) motor that’s tuned to be friendly and predictable. It won’t snap your arms off, but it’ll get you past a slow cyclist or keep you flowing through town without feeling like you’re pushing it. Since the motor’s built into the wheel, it stays quiet and smooth, which is a big reason riders end up liking electric scooters once they try one.

Range sits at about 33 miles on a full charge, thanks to its swappable battery. That’s not meant for long hauls, and Yamaha knows it. It’s built around quick errands, short commutes, and the idea that you’re never too far from a swap station. In Tokyo and Osaka, early units are sold without a battery or charger because battery swapping tech specialist Gachaco handles all the energy stuff.
Riders just sign up, pull a fresh battery from a station, drop the empty one in, and go.
The scooter itself weighs a bit over 205 pounds with the battery in place, which feels light and manageable even if you’re new to riding. A 12 inch front wheel and 10 inch rear wheel keep things stable, and Yamaha adds a combined braking system that spreads some brake force to the front when you pull the left lever. It’s still up to the rider to use both brakes properly, but it gives a nice bit of backup in real-world stop and go traffic.

The JOG has all those tiny quality-of-life features that make scooters fun to live with. Full LED lighting helps with visibility. There’s a clean digital LCD display that only shows the essentials. The left pocket fits a 500 mL bottle. The right side gets a USB Type A port for phone charging. Under the seat, you’ve got room for small stuff like gloves or rain gear, plus a helmet holder for when you run into a store. There’s even a front hook that carries up to 2.2 lbs (1 kg) of groceries or takeout.
Yamaha keeps the styling simple with two new colors. Dignified Gray Metallic gives it a darker, more grounded look, while Concrete Gray is lighter and a bit more modern. Nothing wild, which fits the whole point of the scooter. The JOG Electric might not look like cutting-edge future tech at first glance, but this is exactly the kind of machine that gets people on two wheels in the electric era. It’s familiar, approachable, and built to slide right into a normal day.
