Yahya Sinwar, one of Israel's most wanted men, has been notably absent since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023. However, after nearly a year of silence, Sinwar resurfaced in mid-September with a series of public statements.
On September 10, Sinwar issued his first statement since the war, extending congratulations to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for his election victory. This message was reportedly conveyed through Hamas' Telegram channel.
The following day, Sinwar's office disclosed that he had penned letters expressing gratitude to those who had offered condolences following the death of his predecessor, Ismail Haniyeh. Additionally, on September 13, a letter was dispatched to then-Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah. However, the authenticity of these letters could not be independently verified.
Sinwar assumed the role of political leader of Hamas subsequent to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in July. Known for his hardline stance in dealings with Israel, Sinwar is believed to advocate for enhanced cooperation and closer relations with Iran and allied Islamist factions like Hezbollah.
