The legendarily terrible remake of XIII is getting a massive overhaul soon. Yes – it’s getting remade again.
On Thursday, developer Microids announced that studio Tower Five has been working on an extensive update for the XIII remake that came out back in 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The patch will rework enemy AI, address countless bugs, and completely overhaul the art style so it looks more comic book-like, just as the original 2003 version did. The (new) remake will come as a free update on Sept. 13, 2022, and coincide with the Nintendo Switch port.
“We are fully aware and terribly sorry that the initial launch of XIII Remake on PS4, Xbox One, and PC did not reach players’ expected quality standards. A bit more than a year ago, we [made] the decision to hire studio Tower Five to finish [development],” Stéphane Longeard, CEO at Microids, said in a blog post. “We really wanted to take the time to fix the game and offer owners of XIII remake a free update paying the best possible tribute to the original game we all love.“
Refined art style, online multiplayer, improved AI, XIII is back with a bang!

Additionally, the online multiplayer mode for XIII will be part of this patch. Up to 13 players can duke it out like everyone is jury-rigging several GameCubes together like it’s 2003 all over again. Just how boomer shooter enthusiasts like it.
XIII is a cult classic among FPS fans. When the remake came out, it shot down Metacritic’s rankings — becoming the second-worst reviewed game of 2020. Not exactly an accolade any developer is keen on holding.
