Ultimate cameras
With a new 200MP telephoto lens at the back and a 1-inch main camera, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra has the best camera package of any phone available today. It takes extraordinary photos and videos in challenging situations, and while there are times when the image quality is inconsistent, it is fantastic nonetheless. You get a bigger battery with fast charging, a brighter AMOLED panel this time, and a slightly altered design that's easier to hold and use. After a month and a half of use, I'm ready to call the Xiaomi 15 Ultra one of the best phones of 2025.

Muddling along
The Galaxy S25 Ultra doesn't bring any noticeable upgrades this year, with Samsung once again choosing to play it safe with the design. You still get a good overall package, and the cameras at the back take great photos. That said, the S25 Ultra just doesn't do enough to measure up against the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and it's clear that Xiaomi has the lead in imaging, battery life, and even how bright the AMOLED panel gets. The one area where it has an advantage is with the seven-year update guarantee, but outside of that, the S25 Ultra just doesn't do enough.
