Xi Jinping has been reelected unanimously as president of the People’s Republic of China and chairman of the country’s Central Military Commission, according to results announced Friday morning during a plenary meeting of the 14th National People’s Congress.

Lawmakers elected Han Zheng as vice president of China, the results showed, replacing Wang Qishan who had been in the position since 2018.

The election results mark the beginning of the third five-year term for Xi to lead the country and its military.

Xi took a public oath of allegiance to the Constitution of China in the presence of almost 3,000 congressional delegates in the Great Hall of the People.

Xi, 69, was reelected last October as General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and appointed chairman of the CPC’s top military body after the conclusion of the 20th party congress.

Delegates will elect China’s next premier on Saturday, along with the nation’s top judge and its chief prosecutor.
