Xavien Howard’s agent responds to NFL writer’s comparison of the CB’s contract to Denzel Ward’s

Just over two weeks ago, the Miami Dolphins gave cornerback Xavien Howard a contract extension that gave him a $25.35 million average annual salary.

The team, fans and the player were extremely happy with the deal.

Then Monday, the Cleveland Browns opted to give cornerback Denzel Ward a five-year extension that was reportedly worth $100.5 million with $71.25 million guaranteed. This contract made Ward the highest-paid cornerback in league history.

With this new, record-setting deal, former Dolphins Wire managing editor Antwan Staley, who is now covering the Oregon Ducks for the Register-Guard, made a comment on Twitter that many Dolphins fans were thinking.

It makes sense that some would want to know how Howard feels, considering that would be the case with most players who just had their record-setting deal passed.

The tweet caught the eye of Howard’s agent, David Canter, who quickly set the record straight, comparing the “True APY” and “new money” in the deal.

For now, it doesn’t seem like Howard will be holding out for another new deal anytime soon.
