Xavi sends Manchester United dig as club learn which players really care after Arsenal defeat

Here are your Manchester United morning headlines for Monday, April 25.

Xavi sends Manchester United dig

Barcelona manager Xavi namedropped United when outlining what must not happen to the Catalans while he is in charge. The Barca legend returned to the Nou Camp as manager in November and has helped to push them right back up the La Liga standings.

Xavi replaced Ronald Koeman in the dugout with Barcelona languishing in ninth spot. They are now sitting second, although it has not been all plain-sailing since the World Cup winner headed back to the place where he became a worldwide figure and serial trophy winner as a player.

Manchester United learned which players really care

United players did not need to consult their media representatives or analyse 'fan sentiment graphs' to know the mood would be low after their latest defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League.

A week in which United had the chance to revive their dismal season instead confirmed the mess Ralf Rangnick's side are in, with a humiliating loss at Anfield followed up by another damaging defeat in their weak fight for a top-four finish.

In a weird way, the loss on Tuesday night was a bit more understandable. Liverpool are one of the best sides in Europe and are chasing an almighty quadruple. It's hard to remember a time in recent history when the gulf between the two teams was quite so big.
