Man accused of taking wolf to bar before killing it faces two years in prison

This Jan. 24, 2018, photo released by the National Park Service shows a wolf from the Wapiti Lake pack silhouetted by a nearby hot spring in Yellowstone National Park - (National Park Service)

A man has been indicted on a felony animal cruelty charge, nearly 18 months after he allegedly struck a wolf with a snowmobile, taped its mouth shut, and displayed the injured animal in a rural bar before killing it.

Cody Roberts had previously paid only a $250 fine for illegal possession of wildlife last year. Investigators had struggled to find cooperative witnesses, and Wyoming law gives wide leeway for people to kill wolves and other predators across much of the state.
