Wylam Brewery to host 'Flower Power' vegan beer and food festival this weekend

Wylam Brewery is holding a two-day vegan food and beer festival this weekend, where foodies will get the chance to sample a range of plant-based treats from more than ten vendors.

The free, no-ticket event held in Exhibition Park is back for its second year after a pandemic-induced hiatus.

Sellers confirmed so far include North-East vegan favourites such as Veganatomy, Snackwalla and Dot Bagels.

The event is organised in conjunction with 44Events, the company responsible for popular food battles at the Wylam venue.

Company director Danny Hughes said: "The event really is for everyone, yes we appeal to all out Vegans, but the majority of the audience is all-out foodies, and people simply looking to try incredible plant based dishes from some of their favourite food spots.

"We call these people ‘ve-curious’ and it’s all in good vein for Veganuary."

He added: "The first year was such a nice surprise for us, we launched the event not really knowing what to expect, but the response was huge.

"And the vegan sentiment has only grown since then. We’ve been doing these events for over five years with Wylam Brewery."

"It’s nice to represent this ‘genre’ of food alongside our hugely popular ‘battle of the burger’, ’slice wars’, ’Thai Kwondo’ and the ‘Argie Bhaji’."

He said that the Wylam building is the "perfect" venue because it has a "great atmosphere and lots of areas, spaces for people to enjoy the event."

The festival is running Friday January 21 between 5pm-11pm & Saturday January 22 Midday-11pm, and dogs are welcome.
